In the wide-ranging repertoire of medieval music, we often witness a musical development known as contrafactum, whereby sacred texts are adapted to profane melodies. This is the case of Fulget Dies, in which a trovadorica (troubadour) melody is transformed into a work in praise of the Virgin Mary. This arrangement by Donato Semeraro takes this ancient melody as its source of inspiration and builds it into the extraordinary intensity of Carmina Burana's sound.
