Gippsland is a rich farming district in the state of Victoria, located in Australia. Gippsland was reportedly written as a "mark of appreciation" to that district for beginning a band association in 1910, even though a year later, "it appears to have died - a most inglorious death through decay." Lithgow was always starting bands and touring with them, so he always had appreciated those who did the same.
