Description:
Highland Cathedral, ...a melody on its secret triumphal procession into the hearts of the people. The story behind the creation: Michael Korb has always had a fondness for bagpipe music. When he came to Berlin after finishing school in 1975, he immediately took lessons on the unusual instrument from the 'Pipe Major' of a Scottish battalion. When the Scots left, so did Michael Korb.... went to Edinburgh, where he took daily lessons with the already 80-year-old master Paddy Atkinson. During the day in his summerhouse and in the evening (because of the neighbors) in the forest. He was drawn there again and again for several years until he mastered the instrument accordingly. After the release of a record with disco-style bagpipe music in 1979 and the lucky meeting with the experienced and very successful arranger, producer and composer Uli Roever (who worked for Udo Jürgens and Peter Maffay, among others), it finally came to the jointly developed melody 'Highland Cathedral'. Both creators were convinced of its chances of success - not so the publishers. Despite their rejection at the time, the melody has been finding its way into people's hearts - often in unusual ways - since 1982.
