Description:
Hymne à l’Amour is a song by Édith Piaf (1915-1963) that was released in 1950. The lyrics were written by Édith Piaf herself and the music by Marguerite Monnot (1903-1961). It has become a great classic of the French chanson and is also one of Édith Piaf’s biggest hits. She wrote "Hymne à l’Amour" in 1949, in a house in Boulogne-Billancourt, whilst thinking of the man she loved, the boxer Marcel Cerdan, whom she had met in 1948 during a tour of New York, whilst Marguerite Monnot drew inspiration from Robert Schumann’s "Frühlingsnacht" when composing the music. Canadian star Céline Dion’s version of "Hymne à l’Amour" was performed during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, from the first floor of the Eiffel Tower. This "best of the best" of the French chanson was arranged for concert band, fanfare and brass band by Frank Bernaerts.
