Description:
Italia, it's a rhapsodic orchestral poem composed by Alfredo Casella (1883-1947) in 1909 and performed in the first time under his conducting at the Caveau Hall in Paris on 23 April, 1910. So Casella describes this rhapsody: 'The composer wanted to evoke in this work two of the most characteristic aspects of southern Italy: the tragic one of Sicily, the volcanic island from the vast desert areas burned by a scorching sun, and superstitious and feverish life; the other, it's about Naples and its bay, full of the most exuberant life force and the most carefree joy'. The composition is the free reworking of some popular themes.
