Description:
The Jupiter Hymn is taken from Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity, the fourth movement of the suite The Planets, written by the English composer Gustav Holst (1874-1934) between 1914 and 1917. The premiere of The Planets took place in 1918 with Sir Adrian Boult and the Royal Philharmonic Society. The work is one of the most colorful examples of 20th century orchestral literature. The anthem works well as a concert opening; for more solemn occasions, the alternate ending can be used.
