Description:
The Juvavum Fanfare was composed especially for the final concert of the first part-time university course in wind orchestra conducting at the renowned Mozarteum Salzburg, which took place for the first time from 2019 to 2021. This festive opening composition is dedicated to the highly esteemed course director and conductor Martin Fuchsberger, as well as to all the graduates who successfully completed this course. The name of the fanfare, "Juvavum", is taken from the ancient Roman name for Salzburg. This connection to Salzburg manifests itself not only in the premiere of the piece at the Mozarteum Salzburg, but also in its musical depth. Thematically, the initial fanfare and the following vocal middle section draw on the melody of the Salzburg state anthem "Land uns'rer Väter". The solemn fanfare sounds reflect the first intervals of this anthem. From bar 27, a direct quotation of the melodic theme is heard. Both the fanfare sounds and the vocal lines of this hymn finally find their tonal fusion in a rousing final section. The Juvavum Fanfare is ideal for ceremonially opening concerts and offers an entertaining experience for both listeners and musicians thanks to its appropriate length.
