Description:
It was the English King Edward III who founded one of the oldest orders of knighthood in 1348. Since 1946, the appointment is again the prerogative of the British Crown with the intention to oblige the powerful nobility to become Prince or Princess. It is a secular order. The name of the order, 'Order of the Garter', inspired John Nimbly to write this solemn composition in the ABA form. The middle section (B) is a sparkling allegro with solos for trumpet and euphonium. The fanfare motif announces the beginning of the ceremony.
