Description:
Kongsvinger Fortress was established between 1673 and 1784, based on the earlier Vingersundet redoubt by the Glomma River from 1658.
In January 1683, Gustav Wilhelm von Wedel decided that the fortress should be named "Königs Winger." This later evolved into "Kongens Vinger," and eventually was shortened to the modern name Kongsvinger.
The fortress's signature bugle call is in 3/4 time signature and bears an unmistakable resemblance to the folk tune "Kjerringa med Staven" ("The Old Woman with the Stick").
Whether the signal inspired the song or vice versa remains unknown. This march is inspired by the signal and incorporates elements of it in the first and last sections, adapted to 2/4 time signature.
