Description:
This composition by José Luis Peiró Reig is inspired by the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Each musical section reflects a different part of this magnificent building: A solemn introduction portrays the majestic Fachada del Obradoiro, followed by a romantic theme dedicated to the Apostle Saint James. The horns take the lead in the Pórtico de la Gloria, symbolizing its three arches - the Old Testament, the Apocalypse, and the Last Judgment. The Botafumeiro is depicted through an organ-like sound and the Apostle's theme. The Puerta Santa represents the ceremonial opening of the Holy Door at the start of a Holy Year. The piece concludes with the Fiesta de Santiago: after a brief reference to the Alborada Gallega, a lively -Muiñeira - a traditional Galician dance - develops and builds toward a grand and solemn finale, highlighted by a brilliant brass melody and majestic bell sounds.
