Description:
La Pícara Molinera ("The teasing millgirl") is a zarzuela by Spanish composer Pablo Luna (1879-1942). Premiered in 1928, "La Pícara Molinera" is considered as one of the great successes of the composer. The music of Luna is masterly, a feast of passionate melody, garnished with Asturian flavourings and succulent orchestral writing and this is reflected, among other things, in the beautiful intermezzo from Act 2 with its stirring tune and rhythmically pointed cross-melodies, woodwind and tambourine. Spanish arranger Sergio Rodríguez Pena transcribed this "intermedio" for Symphonic Band.
