Giuseppe Giuseppe Verdi composed this opera in 1853 and it belongs to the top of Giuseppe Verdi's middle period of composing. The Brindisi (drinking song) 'libiamo ne' lieti calice' is sung in the beginning of the first act by Violetta, Alfredo and the guests of a party at Violetta's place.
