Description:
Libuse was composed by Bedrich Smetana in 1872. It is an operatic overture which has its origins in Czech mythology. Libuse was the very beautiful daughter of a prince and she possessed supernatural powers. She successfully settled a quarrel between two brothers over an inheritance. Their reconciliation gave Libuse the opportunity to marry her beloved Piemysl and nominate him as a prince. Libuse and Piemysl forgave the brothers during an assembly with a kiss of peace. Libuse could now proclaim a glorious future to the Czech people.
