Description:
Grieg, who had a keen interest in folk melodies, managed to preserve the freshness and vitality of that music in his short pieces and fragments of bigger works. At times, besides reproducing folk songs and dances, his works captured the somewhat sad, homogenous beauty of the northern landscape, blue fjords, eternal snows, dark larch forests and vast alpine sunsets. An example are his famous 'Lyrische Stücke' for piano. Four simple lyric pieces from this work are featured here: Nos. 2, 6 and 8 from Op. 12, and No. 2 from Op. 62. The Norwegian composer?s delicate and refined harmonisation evokes and anticipates more modern styles.
