This entertaining musical composition was written by Ludwig van Beethoven in 1809 in the Turkish style for the six variations, Op. 76 and two years later it was included in the incidental music for the play "The Ruins of Athens", Op. 113. Characterized by the presence of the so-called Turkish percussions (bass drum, cymbals and triangle), the piece, with its dynamic scheme which includes a pianissimo beginning, a progressive crescendo which leads to the climax and the subsequent diminuendo which returns to the initial sonority, it alludes to the passage of a procession passing over the scene. These elements, in addition to the fact that the theme is mainly performed by the woodwinds, make the march particularly suitable for the band, so the transcription work was focused above all on maintaining the sound climate of the composition.
