Metamorphosis of Narcissus, a powerful symphonic poem by the young Italian composer Simone Sangiacomo, is inspired by the surrealist painting by Salvador Dalí. From dark, mythical landscapes to the iconic petrified hand holding a broken egg, the music blurs the lines between illusion and reality. The piece uses innovative sonic techniques to depict the metamorphosis and fusion between man and his own reflection. Metamorphosis of Narcissus presents itself as a profound meditation on the boundaries between self-awareness, decay and transformation. In 2024, Metamorphosis of Narcissus won second prize at the "Winds Composition Contest Saxony" in Dresden, Germany.
