Description:
The composer has created the quintessential western band composition here. Commissioned by the Malta, Montana high school band, the work was written to commemorate the Homestead Act of 1862 and the brave pioneers it inspired to move west and settle. Various sections of the piece present the trials and tribulations of the homesteaders, with the optimistic spirit of the Montana bound settlers always returning, and prevailing in the end.
