Nimrod is the name of the ninth and best known variation in Edward Elgar's Enigma Variations, an orchestral work of 14 variations on an original theme composed between 1898 and 1899. Each variation is a portrait of one of 14 members of Elgar's family and circle of friends. Nimrod is a celebrated work in its own right and a portrait of Augustus Johannes. Jaeger, in addition to being his best friend, was Elgar's publisher.

Since these are portraits, each variant is accompanied by a name or initials to identify the person. Biblically, Nimrod is a great hunter of the Old Testament and thus represents his muse August Johannes Jaeger through a play on words. The melody seems to represent a nocturnal walk in which the two discuss slow movements in Ludwig van Beethoven; indeed, the first eight measures recall the beginning of the second movement of the piano sonata Pathétique.

An arrangement of classical music penned by Franco Cesarini that stands out for its skillful and careful instrumentation.
