Description:
Notes from the Road was commissioned by the Thurgau Cantonal Music Association, Switzerland, as the required piece for the second category at the 26th Thurgau Cantonal Music Festival in 2023. The piece is written in the typical form of an Italian overture, following the fast-slow-fast structure.
Reflections on life and the "path" as a metaphor were the driving forces behind the composition of this piece. The symbol of the path is characteristic of various cultures, so that the verb "to walk" or the word "road"" denote a path of being in life and self-realization. "Going one’s own way" means affirming oneself; "having a path" points to one’s own, personal approach. The path is the most beautiful metaphor for life: There is a starting point, a destination, and in between, a path—sometimes winding—of overcoming challenges and choosing directions.
An introspective piece, an invitation to each of us to reflect on our own "path."
