With the ballad "…nur ein Traum" ("…just a dream"), the Baden-based composer Roland Rippmann has created a soulful piece for alto saxophone and flugelhorn. Inspired by people’s dreams—of happiness, health, and a more peaceful world—the composition invites listeners to leave their everyday lives behind for a few minutes and let their thoughts run free. After an atmospheric opening by the flute and glockenspiel, the alto saxophone first unfolds its expressive melody, before the flugelhorn sensitively carries the musical idea forward. As the piece progresses, both solo instruments blend into a harmonious soundscape that concludes with a calm, atmospheric finale. Michael Kuhn’s delicate arrangement lends the ballad a warm, resonant atmosphere. "…nur ein Traum" is a moving solo piece full of tranquility and emotion—a special moment in any orchestral program.
