Oriental Postcards consists of three variations on a theme with an eastern character: In From Egypt the theme is presented first by brass and then by woodwinds, in From the Desert the percussion plays an important role and in the last part From the Orient Express the theme appears in a cheerful, light guise. This catchy piece was composed especially for young musicians and is therefore particularly suitable for youth orchestras.
