The piece, centers, as the title itself implies, on a study of the compositional language of Vincent Persichetti, one of the most eminent figures in 20th century American wind music and, as such, the author of his own compositional language, described in the famous treatise "20th Century Harmony".
The composition, in the form of an Overture, retraces Persichetti's modus operandi, drawing on the harmonic forms he described in the treatise, first in slow tempo, in which the main theme is played by the trumpet over typical harmonies; in the first part there is also a brief quotation from Persichetti by the flute, intended as a tribute to the composer himself. In the second part, however, the composition develops into a dialogue between percussion and wind sections, in which the timpani play a prominent role.
