Description:
Having made an indelible musical mark with his amazing Symphony on Themes of John Philip Sousa, and Divertimento for Band, master Hollywood film composer/arranger Ira Hearshen has once again turned to a bravura work with Patriotic Overture. With mixed meter, juxtaposed melodies, thick harmonies, short solo exposures, burnished and brilliant brass passages, all applied to tunes Americans hold dear, including America the Beautiful, Columbia the Gem of the Ocean, and the Battle Hymn of the Republic, among others, this is another wonderful work for advanced bands. Particularly in this time of an increased sense of pride and patriotism, this is a guaranteed winner on any concert program.
