The "Persian March" op. 289 by Johann Strauss was composed in 1864. Andreas Simbeni's arrangement for wind orchestra, which is designed for flexible instrumentation and percussion, also enables smaller orchestras to bring this impressive march to bear in terms of sound and harmonics. This short march, known for its exotic melody and dynamic structure, was dedicated by Strauss to the Persian Shah Naser al-Din Shah.
