Description:
Piano Man' is a song by the American pianist, singer-songwriter and composer Billy Joel (born 1949). Between 1972 and 1993, he produced pop music hits, including, for example, 'Piano Man', 'Goodnight Saigon' and 'Uptown Girl'. After 1993, Billy Joel focused on performing and on writing and recording classical music. The single "Piano Man" is taken from his eponymous second studio album, released in 1973. Following the poor commercial reception of his very first album, Joel wanted to terminate his record contract with Family Productions so that he could move to Columbia Records. To earn a living, he actually worked as a bar pianist under the pseudonym Bill Martin in Los Angeles and the surrounding area. 'Piano Man' refers to that period. This chart-topping hit was arranged for concert band, fanfare and brass band by Jan van Kraeydonck.
