Description:
Antonín Dvorák (1841-1904) was the greatest representative of the national style in Czechoslovakia. He graduated from the Prague conservatory in 1859 and worked several years as a viola player and music teacher before at last he began to make a name for himself as a composer in 1873.
In 1879 Dvorak composed the 'Polonaise'. This polonaise in E-flat major is an occasional piece written for the ball committee of the 'Academic Readers' Association' as the opening number for a ball held on 6 January 1880.
