Description:
Mikhail Mikhailovich Ippolitov-Ivanov (1859 - 1935) was a Russian composer, conductor and teacher. His works include operas, orchestral music, chamber music and a large number of songs. His style is similar to that of his teacher Rimsky-Korsakov. Ippolitov-Ivanov's most well-known compositions are the 'Caucasian Sketches', which are two orchestral suites composed in 1894 and 1896. The final movement of the first suite is the 'Procession of the Sardar' (procession of noblemen and aristocrats) which became very popular on its own. Dutch arranger Andre Bodin transcribed this 'cortège' for Symphonic Band.
