Description:
In terms of scope, the stage music for Bjørnson's play "Maria Stuart in Scotland" is Nordraak's main work. It demonstrates his undeniable talent for bringing a text to life dramatically, as well as his compositional skill and insight into instrumentation. The festive opening piece, "Purpose", is played as the curtain rises on a colorful ball scene at Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh. "Purpose" is also frequently used as a processional or recessional at weddings.
