Description:
The main theme - in the form of an elegant dance rich in contrasting timbres - is presented in the opening section and performed by the brass section. The second theme is a development of the opening, with the brass section playing a leading role and woodwinds retorting with rapid scales. A subsequent transition once again returns to the main theme with the involvement this time of tutti. In the trio, dark timbres develop a smooth expressive theme before the gradual introduction of tutti after two successive modulations. The coda once more harkens back to the introductory fanfare.
