Description:
This piece consists of three movements (Maestoso, Allegro molto and Grandioso). It follows the typical A-B-A three-part form based on two themes. The central section is preceded by a short introduction in which the two themes, which are merely touched upon, co-exist and inter-relate the melody of the first theme, with its strongly accented sounds, is thus transformed and melts into the melodic linearity of the second theme, with its large, highly expressive intervals. When considering the piece as a whole, the various sections appear juxtaposed and are linked by assonance and variation.
