Description:
Romance and Scherzo is, as the name suggests, a short piece in two movements: A charming Romance and a dramatic Scherzo. The piece is originally for cornet and piano, and was written around 1900. In my opinion, it is a little gem in the trumpet repertoire, and less well known than, for example, the sonata for trumpet and piano, which is quite widely played in Denmark. Although the piece is originally with piano accompaniment, it lends itself well to being orchestrated, and idiomatically suits wind instruments. Work especially on getting the rhythm right in the second movement, then the Scherzo character will come out more clearly!
