Description:
While composing Sinfonietta No. 3, Zwölfmalgreien Sketches," Franco Cesarini was inspired by the municipality of Zwölfmalgreien. This municipality, consisting of twelve villages, was incorporated into the city of Bolzano (South Tyrol, Italy) over a hundred years ago. The unique character of these villages—which differ from one another but are all marked by rare beauty—contributed to the creation of this three-movement piece.
The first movement, City Life," depicts the hustle and bustle, tourists, and shopping opportunities in some of the villages. This is followed by Mountain Shadows," a slow movement that describes the mountain villages, which receive little sunlight in winter. Classic Vineyards," the third movement, is a lively movement that stands in stark contrast to the previous one. It symbolizes the sun and warmth of these typical wine-growing regions: echoes of folk dances and Bacchus festivals can be heard in the distance.
