Empress Elisabeth of Austria, also known as Sisi, led a fascinating life marked by external constraints and internal struggles. Born in Munich in 1837, she became empress through her marriage to Emperor Franz Joseph I. Despite ups and downs in her marriage, she produced four children. Sisi's extraordinary beauty and distinctive style of dress were well known, as was her longing for freedom, which led her to numerous trips across Europe, especially with a special bond with Hungary. Her relationships with the men in her life, especially Emperor Franz Joseph I and Count Gyula Andrássy, are significant. The composition by Otto M. Schwarz thematizes Sisi's freedom-loving nature and her loved ones, with the composer incorporating short musical motifs from her era.
