Puccini's Opera Manon Lescaut is based on the 1731 novel L'histoire du chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut by the Abbe Prevost. He used some musical elements in Manon Lescaut from earlier works he had written. The aria Sola, perduta, abbandonata is sung by Manon in the fourth act: she sings that she does not want to die.
