Suite Pastorale, consisting of three movements - Idyll, Playful Shepherd Boys, Rain Upon the Fields, is characterized by an idealization of the simplicity of country life in close contact with nature. It is the eternal and fascinating myth of Arcadia: a world where man lives in harmony with nature, immersed in bucolic, wooded landscapes, one of the most important imaginary refuges for those who were and are tired of culture and civilization. The suggestive Arcadian world becomes almost a myth due to the attention paid to it by poets, writers, playwrights, painters and composers who have used it for their works over the centuries. It is full of metaphorical meanings: it is a place of security, a place where one lives and sings about love, even disappointed love, and it is the place of civilization in contrast to barbarism. It is a symbol of happiness, a real and intact image of reality, immobile in space and time, where nothing changes. The myth of the "locus amoenus" has not faded over time, but has retained all its fascination over the centuries.
Suite Pastorale was commissioned by Franco Cesarini of the Aldeno Wind Orchestra (Trento/Italy) on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of its founding (1923-2023).
