Description:
(Leyendas de España) - Symphonic Suite
Tales From Spain is a symphonic suite featuring four well-known stories from Spanish culture. In this work, the historical and mythical backgrounds of these tales come to life. These are stories that have been passed down for centuries.
1. Camino de Santiago
The work begins with a solemn and melodic movement inspired by the mysticism of the Camino de Santiago. The movement develops a theme in a crescendo, full of hope and spirituality, and depicts the triumphant arrival at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
2. Suspiros de Boabdil—Sighs of Boabdil
In this movement, the music is filled with melancholy and arabesques, evoking the fall of Granada in 1492 and the farewell of the last Nasrid king, Boabdil, as he left his kingdom.
3. La Dama de Elche - The Lady of Elche
A mysterious and enigmatic movement paying homage to the famous Iberian sculpture. The music is characterized by passages full of emotion, mystery, and a sense of the divine.
4. Sant Jordi y el Dragón - Saint George and the Dragon
This movement recounts the epic and vivid legend of Saint George, the holy knight who defeated the dragon to save the princess and her people. At the spot where the dragon fell, a rosebush with red blossoms grew, symbolizing life and self-sacrifice. The movement begins with a menacing introduction that depicts the dragon with dark chords and thunderous percussion. With the introduction of the hero’s theme, the music takes on a march-like and victorious character, culminating in a brilliant, triumphant finale that celebrates courage and the victory of good over evil.
Tales From Spain is a musical journey that blends tradition and modernity and honors Spain’s rich cultural and historical heritage.
