Description:
The Foggy Dew is an Irish ballad that was written in Dublin after the Easter Rising of 1916. It tells of the patriotic fervor of those who left the trenches of the First World War to fight for Irish independence this time. The song expresses both the pride of this commitment and the deep sadness at the loss of so many lives. In this arrangement for wind band, the music unfolds in four phases: 1. Dublin in the Fog - A dark and mysterious introduction evokes the still sleeping Dublin, shrouded in fog, awaiting events that will soon change its history. 2 The Song - The melody appears simple, entrusted to a soloist, as if a lone voice were bearing witness to the hope and dignity of a people. 3. the march - Military percussion and the power of the brass remind us of the uprising: the determination of the insurgents, their courage in the face of inevitable tragedy. 4 The Remembrance - The melody returns extended and solemn, carried by the entire ensemble in a majestic and sonorous affirmation. The ending takes on the character of a hymn, powerful and luminous, as a vivid tribute to the memory of the fallen.
