Description:
The Kings of the Tower is an evocation of the 'Chevaliers de la Tour' ("The Knights of the Tower"). Several knightly brotherhoods were formed in the 12th century; their principal aim was to serve and help the poor. This composition evokes peaceful, happy and sometimes turbulent periods of the brotherhood. The calm introduction presents a theme played by a solo trumpet. After the development, the theme is repeated in a solemn manner and is immediately followed by a quicker, more rhythmic theme. A short cadenza for clarinet closes the development. The next section evokes simplicity, followed by a powerful and rhythmic section. Finally, the first theme returns in a grandioso way. A spectacular composition which enables the band to express its emotions and orchestral qualities.
