Description:
In 1893 he composed the lively march The Liberty Bell, which is typical of Sousa's early creative period. The title refers to the play 'America', which Sousa had attended in Chicago at the time, and which featured an oversized image of the Liberty Bell. Incidentally, the composer also uses a theme of his orchestra's first soprano, Marcella Lindh, in the march.
