Description:
Badnerland, known for its sun-kissed wine-growing region, stretches from Lake Constance along the Rhine to Mannheim. But how is wine actually made? My book The Grapes of the Sun describes some of the stages of wine production: THE VINEYARD It is a quiet morning. The wind blows lonesomely over the vines, gently swaying the grapes. The first rays of sunshine hit the fields and bathe the vines in golden green. THE VINE PICKING The peace is suddenly broken! Countless workers appear: The grape harvest begins! THE GRAPE PRESS With a jolt, the grapes are emptied into the screw press and pressed with muscle power. VINIFICATION AND MATURING The grape must is now fermented in large tanks. The finished wine is then left to rest and mature in barrels for several months. THE WINZERFEST The wine is ready to drink! Time to celebrate this with a winegrowers' festival and taste the young wine!
