Description:

Commissioned by the "Steirischer Blasmusikverband" on the occasion of the brass music pilgrimage to Mariazell in 2017, the composition owes its foundation above all to one component:

the knowledge of the location of the premiere - the Mariazell Basilica. The idea of setting a scene from the Bible to music quickly came to mind: The serpent tempts Adam and Eve to eat the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge. God banishes the two from paradise.

Musical realization: At the beginning you can hear the snake approaching (percussion). Instruction: The 4 wind chimes should be placed more or less in a circle around the orchestra (Dolby Surround). With its beguiling sound, the alto flute expresses both the temptation itself and the cunning of the snake. The music describes the growing desire to do what is forbidden. Even the last wall of steadfastness is torn down by the serpent's words; a solo trumpet and solo trombone now lend Adam and Eve their voices. Both have long been delirious and can no longer be saved. God's punishment follows relentlessly. This is where the organ comes into play and makes the room tremble with its full register. Silence. Only the snake can be heard as it leaves after its deed is done.
