Description:
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809-1847), wrote an enormous amount of music in all the forms of his day except opera; today, only a few of his works are in the concert repertory, but these are very popular. They include the 'Concerto for Violin and Orchestra' in E minor, Op.64, The 'Midsummer Night's Dream' and 'Hebrides' overtures; his five Symphonies; the oratorio 'Elijah'; and a number of chamber works. In 1831 he composed the choral cantata 'Verleih' uns Frieden' for Choir and Orchestra. It was written on a text by Martin Luther. Dutch arranger Gerhart Drijvers transcribed this cantata for Choir and Symphonic Band.
