Series Sound Classics No.30
The US composer and jazz pianist Herbert Jeffrey 'Herbie' Hancock was born in Chicago on April 12, 1940. Many of his compositions have become classics, including that of 'Watermelon Man', first released in 1962 on the album 'Takin' Off'. Herbie Hancock himself tells about the origin of 'Watermelon Man' that the melody came from the exclamation of a watermelon seller, which he had heard in his youth. Markus Götz has arranged the catchy rhythms and the casual sound of 'Watermelon Man' for wind orchestra.
