In September 2011, the "2nd Sepp Thaler Days" were held in Ora, on the basis of which the Association of South Tyrolean Music Bands announced a composition competition with the aim of promoting new brass music works based on old folk songs. In my contribution "Ålm", I arranged the Siusi folk song "Auf der Ålm" in as varied a form as possible. The basic idea of the work was an alpine hike. Accordingly, a peaceful morning mood is described at the beginning. The eventful middle section describes more than just the idyllic side of the mountains. In the triumphant final section, the folk song resounds almost unchanged and conveys the satisfying feeling of returning safe and sound after an exciting hike.
