Description:
Vanuti', for marimba alone, written in 2006, reflects the 'torments of the spirit' which is reflective of the remaining emotional scars from personal experiences one feels.
This work is dedicated to Martin Oprsal who requested it following the performance of my chamber oratorio 'Nec ego te condemnabo' (John 8, 2-11) in which he played the marimba.
Each of the different parts of 'Vaniti', Misterioso - Song - Toccata - Misterioso Song - Misterioso, is a miniature exposition of the multifarious idiomatic and musical characteristics of the instrument. The subtitles of these sequences, which are performed without pause are not intended for concert programs but rather for the orientation of performers regarding issues of musical interpretation.
