This piece is part of an instrumental cycle with the same title. It is based on a poem by Portuguese poet Sebastião da Gama, from which the title is taken, which translates as 'my whole self raises, my whole self burns'.
All the works in the cycle explore our relationship with our own memory, a continuous struggle of trial and error, reconstructing debris from fading dreams. Part 1b is made up of a string of 8 miniatures.
