Four to One

Four to One brings together six distinctive solo pieces for four timpani at an intermediate level. Each piece is preceded by focused warm-up and technical exercises that prepare the player step by step for the specific technical demands of the music. The main focus is on developing confidence and control when playing four timpani. The exercises improve stroke technique, precision, timing and dynamic control while helping players coordinate their movements and develop a clear, resonant sound on each drum. The pieces deliberately avoid any tuning changes. This allows players to concentrate fully on technique, coordination, sound quality and musical expression. "Four to One" is ideal for technical study while also providing attractive solo repertoire for concerts, examinations and competitions. The six pieces open up new technical and musical possibilities on four timpani. Wishing you lots of enjoyment, inspiration and fun while practising and making music, Gerhard Bergauer.
