Many years ago in Sardinia, children gathered around the hearth in the evenings to listen to the old people telling their stories. These stories were passed on by word of mouth from one generation to the next, and told of the poverty, neglect and isolation of the inhabitants of this island. Yet they were also positive stories that helped people to dream for a while, escape from reality and hope for a brighter future. Contos (which means stories in the Sardinian dialect) is inspired by these magic tales and the poetic atmosphere that surrounded them. Those moments are brought back to life in the themes and harmonies of this piece, which are reminiscent of traditional Sardinian folk music.
