'Night Train' is a twelve-bar blues standard recorded for the first time by Jimmy Forrest in 1951.
The history of this instrumental track is long and complicated. The opening riff was played by the band of Duke Ellington for the first time in the early 40's.
Jimmy Forest, at that time saxophone player with Ellington, added his own tenorsax solo which has been an important part of the song after that.
Here's a great, flexible arrangement playable for a quintet with drums up to full brass- and concert band.
