Description:
The agogo bell is a traditional West African percussion instrument consisting of two (sometimes three) metal bells of different sizes that are connected by a U-shaped bracket. They are played with a small wooden mallet. The clear high and low notes form the basis of this composition.
A short percussion prelude is followed by a short bass solo before the first voice takes over the theme. Other instruments are gradually added in a playful rondo form, while rhythm and melody are brought together.
The composition has a simple structure (grade 1) and contains whole, half, quarter and eighth notes. The unison playing in large parts of the piece makes it particularly suitable for beginners' (youth) orchestras to make music together and to encourage attentive listening.
Rondo Agogo is a cheerful, rhythmic work that focuses on the energy and soundscape of percussion and conveys the joy of making music together in a playful way. Optional mallet instruments for an extended percussion group are available, but were deliberately not used in our recording of this work.
